Introducing Port Alfred

Port Alfred is a small town situated at the mouth of the Kowie River, half-way between Port Elizabeth and East London, South Africa. It was founded in the early 1820's and was originally two separate towns, the West bank named it Port Kowie and the East Bank named it Port Frances.
In 1860 when Prince Alfred visited the town the name was changed to honour him. Its distinctive feature is a marina with a number of luxurious houses facing onto the canals.Associated with the marina is a small boat harbour, providing mooring for a variety of vessels e.g. yachts, pleasure craft, sporting and commercial deep-sea fishing vessels. Kelly's beach has Blue Flag status, meaning it is one of the top beaches in S.A. The largest air school, 43 Air School, is in Port Alfred.
